The Open Bell — Ep. 055 — 7 Sept 2026
Today on The Open Bell:
The US military sank three Iranian oil tankers over the weekend, and Brent crude is now pushing toward $97 a barrel, which means the geopolitical bill is already landing at the petrol pump before most people even saw the news.
The US economy added 162,000 jobs in August, nearly three times what forecasters expected, and the cruel irony is that a strong jobs report now raises the odds the Fed hikes rates again, so the workers who drove those numbers may find their mortgage costs going up, not down.
Eurozone inflation just hit 3.3%, a three-year high driven almost entirely by energy prices tied to the same Middle East conflict that sent oil surging, and the European Central Bank's answer is to raise borrowing costs again, meaning European households are about to feel an oil war they didn't start in two places at once: the energy bill and the mortgage statement.
